Summary

Automotive Service Porter performs duties as instructed by the Service Manager. Assists with greeting customers and determines the reason for their service visit. The Porter will facilitate the initial scanning of the vehicle and status of manufacturer warranty. This individual will coordinate the flow of vehicles and parts to the technicians and keep customers apprised of the status of their vehicle. Assists with the preparation of repair orders and gathers costs to repair in order to provide estimates for customer approval. They also advise customers on other available services for their vehicle. MUST HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR AND DIAGNOSTICS.

Essential Duties

• Schedules service appointments.
• Obtains customer and vehicle data prior to arrival when possible.
• Greets customers in a timely, friendly manner, obtains vehicle information, checks service history and inspects vehicle.
• Advises customers about necessary service for routine maintenance.
• Records customer concerns and may complete a visual inspection or go with customer on a road test to confirm concern.
• Relays technicians diagnosis to customer with recommendations for corrective procedures and prepare work order for needed repairs.
• Prepares a repair order showing time, cost and labor estimates for service. Establishes a "promised time" for completion of repairs and obtains customer approval.
• Checks on progress of repair throughout the day. Contacts customers regarding any changes in the estimate or promised time, explains cost and time requirements in detail, and gets proper authorization before any additional repairs are performed.
• Drives vehicles to and from service lane, service stalls, and parking areas as needed.
• Delivers parts to technicians.
• Assists the service department by moving vehicles as needed and delivering vehicles to other repair facilities for sublet repairs.
• Gives customers a ride to and from the dealership, if required, when vehicles are brought in for service.
• Explains the work performed and the repair order charges to the customer.
• Advises customers on the care of their cars and the value of maintaining their vehicles in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.
• Reviews repair orders to ensure that work is completed and additional work and authorization is noted. Closes repair order as appropriate.
• Ensures that vehicles are parked in assigned areas. Makes sure they are locked and all keys are marked and put away correctly.
• Maintains high customer satisfaction standards.
• Handles telephone inquiries regarding appointments and work in process.
• Maintains a professional appearance.
• Keeps work area clean.
• Other tasks as assigned
