Community Support Specialist I/II

Description:

Do you want to help members of your community thrive? Are you a quick learner with strong communication and organizational skills? We are seeking highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic staff members to join our Benefits and Community Support (BCS) Division as Community Support Specialists!

Community Support Specialists provide information, coordinate benefits, and determine initial and ongoing eligibility for applicants/recipients of multiple public assistance programs and services within the Eligibility and Support Division of the Department of Human Services.

This Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM hybrid position requires at least one in-office day per week.

What you'll be doing:

  • Gather, assemble, and review information submitted by applicants and recipients regarding financial and non-financial criteria relevant to the initial and continuing eligibility for food stamps, categorical assistance, and/or medical assistance.
  • Inform applicants/recipients of the relevant requirements and benefits of programs for which they may have eligibility; assist applicants with completing forms; secure documents; notify applicants of appeal rights and procedures in response to notices generated by the computer.
  • Approve or deny applicants based upon review of case information in accordance with state statutes.
  • Enter and update case/client information to maintain computer database records.
  • Maintain assigned caseload under direct supervision and case review.
  • Review monthly change reports for ongoing eligibility and re-determine eligibility as required by applicable programs.
  • Calculate income and resources based on program rules and regulations.
  • Perform rotation of phone duties.
  • Interact with community partners.

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

Community Support Specialist I - $23.7125/hr - $28.4551/hr

  • One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities within an office or customer service environment required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

Community Support Specialist II - $26.0838/hr - $31.3006/hr

  • One (1) year of experience as a Community Support Specialist I, or in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

This hybrid position requires at least one in-office day per week and reliable internet for remote work. Larimer County provides an annual stipend for remote work expenses.

The position will be based at one of the following locations:

  • 1501 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins, CO
  • 2555 Midpoint Drive, Fort Collins, CO
  • 200 Peridot Avenue, Loveland, CO

Candidates will receive the standard starting rate, unless they have one year or more of prior experience as a Community Support Specialist in another Colorado county.

Employees will receive a 2% market increase on January 8, 2026. Employees who start before January 8, 2026, will be hired at the 2025 pay rate and will receive the 2% market adjustment on January 8, 2026. Employees who start on or after January 8, 2026, will be hired at the 2026 rate, which includes the market increase.

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of required pre-employment checks or testing.
